How casinos are spread across Florida
Florida’s casinos concentrate hard in the southeast. The Fort Lauderdale and Miami sprawl holds the densest run of gaming in the state, anchored by the Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood, the resort with the guitar shaped hotel and the best known casino in Florida. Beside it sits the tribe’s original Seminole Classic Casino, and a short drive north is Seminole Coconut Creek. Around them, a string of pari-mutuel slot casinos fills Miami-Dade and Broward, the only two counties where Florida allows slot machines outside tribal land.
Those South Florida slot casinos sit at old racetracks and jai alai frontons. The Seminole Tribe of Florida is the dominant force in the state’s casinos. It runs six of them, including the two Hard Rock resorts, and its 2021 compact with the state gave it the right to add craps and roulette and to run sports betting statewide. The Miccosukee Tribe operates separately with its single casino west of Miami.
